The featured work on this concert is George Gershwin’s famous ‘American in Paris.’ The orchestra will also perform ‘Humoresque’ by John Philip Sousa, ‘The Pleasure Dome of Kubla Kahn’ by Charles Griffes, and ‘American Festival Overture’ by William Schuman. All of these works were composed within 20 years of each other, and all are by American composers. One more featured piece, ‘Ragomania’ by William Bolcolm, is a newer work but is based on popular dances of the early 20th century.
The 64 members of this orchestra include both GCC students and community volunteers, and the group features large brass and percussion sections. Please join the orchestra in this tribute to GCC’s 85th anniversary!
