Two Gene Autry films are screened on the first Saturday of every month in the Imagination Gallery’s Western Legacy Theater. Gene Autry’s Westerns are known for their music, comedy, and action. March features Red River Valley and Mule Train.
Red River Valley (Republic Pictures, 1936)
Cowhand Gene Autry and his partner, Frog Millhouse, help Arizona cattlemen who are trying to build a dam that will bring water to their parched lands. Unscrupulous businessmen attempt to hinder these plans for their own profit. It soon becomes “construction saboteurs versus Gene and Smiley in a ridin’, fightin’, excitin’ thriller!”
Mule Train (Columbia Pictures, 1950)
When natural cement is discovered by two prospectors, one is murdered during a claim jump attempt. Gene Autry befriends the lone prospector and tries to help him promote his cement discovery. The film was billed as an “action-lashed Autry adventure based on the greatest of Western songs!”
