 You will be greeted by Carolers and the Children’s Choir as you enter the church.  This year’s concert will include an 18 piece orchestra and the following choral groups: Glendale City Chamber Choir, Glendale City Sanctuary Choir, Mountainside Master Chorale and the Glendale Adventist Academy Chorale.  The full 120 voices will join in some of the music and then will have featured spots in the program.  The program will have works by: Rutter, Gruber, Finzi, Mendelssohn, Parry, Bach, R Vaughn Williams and Handel.   Dr. Jean-Sebastien Vallee and Brenda Mohr conduct and Kemp Smeal will be at the organ

After 6 long years and a $8,000,000 restoration/redesign, the historical Seeley’s Furniture building is celebrating its heritage and evolution with the grand opening of ‘Seeley Studios’, a modern and urban remodel of the historical building for use as creative office and live/work space. The Seeley Building was originally built in 1925 and underwent a Deco/Modern make-over in the 1940′s for George Seeley and his furniture warehouse. The building sat untouched for another 65 years before it was converted to urban office space for creative tenants by Live Work Loft. The building was opened publicly on Wednesday, September 19th for the first time in over 18 years since Seeley’s Furniture first closed its doors after 60 years in business.

Members of the Los Angeles community, local residents and business owners are welcome to the event and are encouraged to celebrate a historic part of the city being transformed into chic modern live/work and creative space. The architecture and individual spaces will be open for viewing, and many units will house premium artwork from the most creative spirits in Glendale and Los Angeles.

Glendale, CA; September 1, 2012-After the solid success of their first theatrical endeavor, the company in residence at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on North Brand Avenue takes a bold step by presenting a new story that takes a revealing look at one man trapped by technology.

North by South Theatre Los Angeles presents a workshop production of the second play in its opening season October 5-6 and October 12-13 at the Parish Church of St. Mark. Eudoxus, by playwright Julianne Homokay, is an all-consuming glimpse into the dark and obsessive world of Travis, a brilliant recluse who believes he has discovered a mathematical proof that will allow him to eradicate that most vexing of all problems in Southern California: traffic on the freeways.

Set in the basement-turned-laboratory of a modest home in the San Fernando Valley, Eudoxus “forces the audience to really look at the life of a man whose pain has driven him to the absolute fringes of our society.” Continued Literary Manager Jeremiah Munsey, “Travis has to fight forces of nature with the only weapon he has left: his knowledge of math. It’s hubris in the classical sense, and the results are heartbreaking, beautiful and horrifying.”

North by South Theatre Los Angeles was founded by Homokay and Munsey as an extension of the Arts Ministry at St. Mark’s, a project conceived by the Rector Mark A. Weitzel. With plays like Eudoxus and their opening production, Munsey’s West of the Line, North By South hopes to provoke debate on issues like war, poverty, and the human condition.

On Jan 11, 2012, Glendale resident Shree Hingnikar was awarded “2011 Artist of the Year” by Dick Heimbold, President of the Glendale Art Association (GAA).

Originally from Wardha, a city in the heart of India and which has played a significant role in its history, Hingnikar graduated college with a Masters degree in City Planning and a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, and is currently a registered Architect with the State of California. This lends itself to his paintings being tastefully and clearly rendered, with technically and aesthetically correct balance, colors, perspective and composition.

As the Paint Out/Plein Air Committee Chairman for the GAA, Hingnikar takes members out painting twice a month. “You learn a lot from each other and pick up a few pointers from the experts. It is also rewarding to guide budding artists,” he said, “California has beautiful weather and you can paint outdoors on any given day without getting wet or frozen. It’s a beautiful and scenic landscape all around. In 5 to 10 years I would like to establish myself as ‘the California Artist.’ As long as my paintings bring happiness to the viewer, I feel my efforts are worthwhile.”

“Artist of the Year” is determined by actual count of votes by attendees at the GAA monthly meetings. Each attendee selects their two favorite paintings from the Mini Show each month, yielding a monthly winner. At the end of the year, one artist stands out as the popular favorite.

He attributes his success to consistently bringing his newest painting to the meeting, and to his variety in subject matter and painting mediums. “Looking at his paintings, you want to be where Shree was,” said Becky Mate of the GAA, “He knows where to stand and paint.”

Hingnikar’s paintings can be viewed along with other GAA members’ works at the Glendale Art Association’s Spring Show at Citibank Silverlake (2450 Glendale Blvd), a benefit for the Silverlake Public Library. The exhibit will go from May 4 to June 1, with a public Reception on May 5, 2012. He encourages local citizens to “take more interest in the arts and the works of local artists by attending gallery shows and by lending support to the Glendale Art Association.”
