The Doctors House was built in 1888.

It originally stood at 921 E. Wilson Avenue, but was moved to its present location in 1979.

The Doctors House lawn area and gazebo are available for weddings and other special events.

FACILITY DESCRIPTION

    • The traditional teahouse was built in 1974 through the combined efforts of the Sister Cities of Glendale and Higashi-Osaka, Japan. It is one of the few traditional Japanese Teahouses open to the public in the United States.
    • Given the name “Shoseian” or “Whispering Pine Teahouse” by the Fifteenth Grand Tea Master of the Urasenke School of Tea in Japan, the Teahouse is designated an official Tearoom. Dr.Yamazaki of Higashi-Osaka provided initial support for the Teahouse and Gardens.
    • The Teahouse, which was designed by architect Hayahiko Takase, is a unique blending of western and eastern design and an apt expression of the spirit of cross-cultural community.

 

The Japanese Friendship Garden surrounding the tea house is available for weddings and other special events.

  • Built in 1938, the Civic Auditorium stands as a lasting symbol of the quality and beauty of the old and the new. This Spanish Revival/ Art Deco classic building plays host to professionals and consumers alike.
  • The auditorium is a 25,000 square foot multi-level meeting and exhibition facility with five distinct rooms, lobby foyer and historic features. We offer an excellent location, convenience, ADA accessibility and attentive staff to maximize the success your event.
  • The Upper Auditorium has 11,000 square feet of hardwood floor conducive to banquets, retail exhibitions, seminars, stage shows and formal dances. The room includes a full stage with excellent sound and lighting for a variety of events. The capacity is 750 banquet style and 1,100 theater style.
  • The Lower Auditorium has 14,000 square feet and is ideal for dinner dances, retail exhibitions and receptions for up to 600 people. There is a large sunken dance floor, kitchen, counter/bar area, and attached conference room.
  • Two newly renovated, full commercial kitchen facilities are on-site to provide the freshest meals to complement every event.
  • Parking areas accommodate up to 570 vehicles.

  • The Sparr Heights Community Center offers a game room complete with pool tables and game tables. In addition, a variety of free programs are offered to the public.
  • The community center provides a variety of center-based special events and classes throughout the year for the surrounding community. Each opportunity provides fun and safe activities for people of all ages.
