Why do the arts deserve your financial support?
The arts are not an “extra” that can easily be cast aside in these challenging economic times. Imagine how gray our world would be if not for the beauty of a painting, the melody of a song, or the thought provoking message of a play. In a community such as ours, so rich in history and with a changing cultural make-up, it is through the arts that we tell the story of our past and express our hopes for the future. The arts are the heart and soul of our community.
The arts enhance our lives. From concerts at the Alex Theatre, gallery exhibitions, community festivals, or performances in a park, the arts lift our spirits and enrich our everyday lives.
The arts educate our children. It has been proven that children exposed to the arts at an early age excel academically and benefit from a greater sense of self-confidence. Nonprofit arts organizations, like Glendale Arts, play an important role in ensuring that our community’s children have an opportunity to fully experience the arts.
The arts preserve our history. One of Glendale’s most important cultural treasures is the Alex Theatre. Since opening its doors in 1925, the Alex has served as the center of our community’s activities. As stewards of this iconic landmark, it is our responsibility to operate and preserve the Alex for future generations to come.
The arts are poised to revitalize the local economy. Businesses and visitors are drawn to communities that support and value the arts. When people participate in arts activities, they spend money at local restaurants, retailers, and hotels. When a business opens a location in a community it generates tax revenues and creates jobs.
Ticket sales and other sources of earned income account for only 66% of our operating budget needs. In order to successfully continue to preserve and operate the Alex Theatre and to cultivate and promote the arts in Glendale, we must rely on the generous support of individuals like you. We ask that you weigh the value of the arts in your life and consider making a year-end tax-deductible contribution to Glendale Arts and the Alex Theatre.
The arts belong to everyone and require everyone’s support to thrive!
